Tips To Organise Your Makeup Collection

My makeup collection has grown quite a lot over the past year or so, I am always keen to try new products that land on the shelves in the high street stores and I am also very lucky to receive products from brands to try out. I store my makeup in the classic IKEA Alex 9 drawer unit, it's a fab piece of furniture to have and it fits perfectly inside my wardrobe allowing me to have extra space in my bedroom. When I first built and filled my Alex unit I organised it perfectly and had a special section for all types of different products, it worked really well but I found it hard to keep it tidy. Over the past few weeks my makeup collection has turned into a bit of a nightmare, there are products in the wrong drawers and I just needed a new way to arrange my things.

I recently received a lovely set of acrylic drawers from HerClutterBox, something I've always wanted to store my makeup in. Today I will be sharing how I have de-cluttered and organised my collection.

Clean your makeup regularly
I can't stand it when my products are dirty or there is makeup inside the drawers. I now try to clean each product with a baby wipe when I use it, if it is dirty, this helps ensure my drawers stay clean and so do all of my products. It's much easier to keep things clean as you go, than have to clean everything at once. I also like to do a thorough clean of my collection every couple of months or so.

Rotate your products
For the past couple of weeks I have been changing the products in my acrylic storage so that I can start using more products from my hefty collection, this has allowed me to discover so many new favourites in my routine. There are many products I've purchased in the past and totally forgotten about, but by rotating my collection I have got round to trying these out at last.

Use it or lose it
If a product has been in my collection for a while and I haven't reached for it, it is time to remove that product from my collection. I will either donate products to friends and family or sell on Depop, so always check my store to see if I have anything for sale, I also sell skincare products. Sometimes I buy products and they are great for a couple of months but then I may discover something new or just go off of that particular product, its important to cleanse your collection and only keep the things you really use or love.

Only buy what you will use
I am a bit naughty when it comes to new product releases in that I am always tempted to buy everything and in every shade, which although its great to try all of the new products, I don't necessarily need all of these. When I see new releases and things I like I now have a good think about what it actually is and how much I really need it, or if I will actually use it in everyday life. I have saved myself a bit of money by doing this as I now don't end up spending all of my wages on makeup!
Those are my top tips for how to turn your makeup collection into an organised heaven, I think it's really important to have a cleansed and organised environment and this is one way I like to achieve this. You can pick up your own HerClutterBox and you even get to choose exactly what style of acrylic drawers you would like.
